HC Deb 02 April 1969 vol 781 c131W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why his Department sent to road fund licensing authorities a special directive on or about Friday, 28th March, 1969, instructing them not to issue renewal road tax licences before 1st May, 1969, in anticipation of the Budget; and whether such instructions were issued in 1967 and 1968, and on what dates.

Mr. Harold Lever

No such directive has been sent in this or any other year. The Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1964, as amended in 1967, provide that licences may be applied for not more than fourteen days before they are to have effect. Licences falling due to be renewed on 1st May can therefore be taken out from Thursday, 17th April.
