asked the Minister of Technology (1) if he will give details of contracts placed by his Department with foreign organisations for industrial investigation, survey or research;

(2) what criteria were applied by his Department in placing the contract for the survey of the British die and mould manufacture with a United States research organisation; and if he will make a statement.

In the past year no such contracts have been placed but a contract with the Battelle Institute Limited, London, for a technical and economic survey of the manufacture of dies and moulds will be carried out with the assistance of the contractor's overseas associates.

The proposal submitted by the Battelle Institute Ltd. was considered by the Department to be the most appropriate; the same conclusion was reached independently by the U.K.A.E.A.
