HC Deb 25 November 1968 vol 774 c53W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Minister of Technology whether, arising from the recent meetings of the European Launcher Development Organisation, he will now make a statement on the future of Spadeadam, Cumberland.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

The future of the Rocket Establishment at Spadeadam depends on orders for the Blue Streak vehicle. E.L.D.O.'s requirements depend upon its programme, which is still uncertain. The Government has undertaken that Blue Streak will be available commercially at least until 1976, provided orders are placed at the right time and that no cost falls on the British taxpayer, and the French and German Governments have confirmed their intention of ordering two Europa launchers, incorporating Blue Streak, for their Symphonic project.
