§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Minister of Technology (1) if his Department will enter into discussions with Governments in Latin America about the use of British hovercraft as a means of transport in river and swamp areas;
(2) if his Department will enter into discussions with Governments in West and Central Africa about the use of British hovercraft as a means of transport in river and swamp areas.
§ Dr. BrayThe Department and Her Majesty's Government's representatives abroad are constantly bringing hovercraft to the notice of potential customers in all parts of the world. The prime responsibility for sales, however, must lie with the manufacturers. In their support, the Department has helped with sponsorship, funding and direction of the programme in the current demonstrations of hovercraft in various countries of Latin America. Our representatives in each of the countries visited have afforded great help.
17WThe use of hovercraft to complement existing means of transport in the less-developed parts of the world, including West and Central Africa, has been part of a transport study by the United Nations Economic and Social Council, to which the Department has made a substantial contribution.
