asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will take new initiatives to facilitate the resumption of diplomatic relations between Her Majesty's Government and the Governments of Iraq and Algeria.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

There have been informal contacts between Her Majesty's Ambassador and the Iraqi Ambassador in Cairo about the possible resumption of diplomatic relations with Iraq. These contacts are continuing.

We are in touch with the Algerian Government and I am hopeful that diplomatic relations can be resumed in the near future.
