HC Deb 07 March 1968 vol 760 cc119-20W
Mr. Milne

asked the Postmaster-General what costs have been involved in the installation of the new type Trim-phone; how many have been installed; what training methods were used in acquainting staff with the techniques needed in handling this new equipment; and if he will make a statement on the future development of this type of instrument.

Mr. Edward Short

It costs no more to install a Trimphone than a standard tele phone, but the instrument is more expensive. About 15,000 have been installed.

Initially we used programmed learning machines to train the installers quickly. Now that Trimphone is about to become freely available everywhere we shall give instruction in our standard installation and maintenance training courses.
