HC Deb 04 March 1968 vol 760 c12W
77. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in view of the active assistance being given by the People's Republic of Southern Yemen to the Republican forces of Yemen, whether he will review the figure of £9,000,000 of post-independence aid from this country to the People's Republic.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

My information is that the recent action by the Southern Yemeni armed forces on North Yemeni territory was directed against tribes which were held to be threatening Southern Yemen territory and that, far from the Southern Yemenis giving active assistance to the Yemeni Republicans, it was a token force of the latter which assisted the Southern Yemenis. I do not think that this necessitates reviewing the figure of aid now being paid to Southern Yemen for the period until 31st May.
