§ Mr. MacArthurasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many teachers are employed in local authority secondary schools in Scotland this year and what is his latest estimate of the number in 1973.
§ Mr. RossI do not yet have the figures for the current session but will send them to the hon. Member when they are available. Revised estimates suggest that on present trends there should be about 21,400 qualified teachers in secondary schools in 1973–74. These estimates do not take into account the possibility, afforded by the potential surplus of primary teachers, of diverting more teachers into training for secondary work.
