asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many general practitioners were employed in Scotland on 1st March 1968; how this figure compared with 1st March 1967, 1st March 1966, 1st March 1965, and 1st March 1964; how many of these were in the Highlands and Islands; and how this figure compared with the same date in 1967, 1966, 1965 and 1964 how many were employed in Glasgow, how this compared with 1967, 1966, 1965 and 1964; how many of the general practitioners held medical qualifications obtained outside Great Britain; and how many were born outside Great Britain.

For some of these years statistics of general practitioners, practising under the National Health Service are not available as at 1st March; the table below sets out the position at 1st January. Information about the number of these practitioners who were born or obtained medical qualifications outside Great Britain is not readily available.
