HC Deb 17 July 1968 vol 768 cc225-6W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give separately the costs per unit of electricity produced in Scotland during 1967–68 from coal, oil and by gas turbines, on the same basis as the table on page 20 of the South of Scotland Electricity Board's annual report.

Mr. Ross

I am advised by the Boards that the costs per unit of electrity produced in Scotland in 1967–68 were for coal-fired stations l.03d., for oil-fired stations 0.77d. and for gas turbine stations 2.72d. These figures make no allowance for the subsidy, equivalent to .019d. per unit, paid towards the cost of substituting coal for oil; this falls to be deducted from the total cost per unit of l.00d. for coal, oil and gas turbine generation in Scotland in 1967–68.
