HC Deb 17 July 1968 vol 768 c225W
Mr. Whitaker

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress has been made towards showing the Burrell picture collection since the site was chosen; how long it is since this collection was bequeathed; and when he expects it to be open to view.

Mr. Ross

The planning and construction of a gallery to house the Burrell collection, given to Glasgow Corporation in 1944, is the Corporation's responsibility. I understand that the Corporation intends to hold a competition to choose an architect for the new gallery and that a panel of assessors is at present making preparations for this competition; no date of opening has been forecast.
