HC Deb 10 July 1968 vol 768 c68W
71. Mr. Pavitt

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he has examined Report Number 64 of the National Board for Prices and Incomes on the increase in prices of mercury hearing-aid batteries; and if he will now refer the production of such batteries by only one manufacturer in the United Kingdom to the Monopolies Commission.

Mr. Dell

I have seen a copy of the Report and will take its findings into account in considering what further references should be made to the Monopolies Commission.

72. Mr. Pavitt

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will now examine the possibility of making a special investment grant to any company which is prepared to establish a factory in a development area to break the existing monopoly in the production of mercury hearing-aid batteries.

Mr. Dell

No. The present arrangements provide a strong incentive to new manufacturing firms to set up in development areas.
