§ Mrs. Ewingasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what investigation was carried out prior to setting up of the present working party by the Scottish Office three months ago to investigate the causes of Scottish emigration.
§ Mr. Ross:There is no such working party. The task of the recently established Working Group on Population is to assemble and analyse the information about population growth and population movement which has already been built up over the years by various Government Departments, and to relate it to the fresh information now becoming available from the 1966 Census. It is not undertaking entirely new research.

§ Mr. Ross:There is no such working party. If the hon. Lady means the Working Group on Population whose remit I outlined in the House on 31st January last, it consists of officials of the Government Departments principally concerned.
