§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that, notwithstanding a Report of the National Board for Prices and Incomes that prices should not be raised, theDaily Mirrorproprietors have increased the price of their newspaper by 25 per cent.; and what action he will take to enforce the National Board for Prices and Incomes' report along the lines adopted on previous occasions so far as wage and salary demands are concerned.
§ Mr. Darling:The proprietors of theDaily Mirrorvoluntarily deferred the price increase pending the investigation by the N.B.P.I., to whom the matter was referred on 25th July, 1967. The proprietors discussed the N.B.P.I. Report with us and I am satisfied they took it fully into account in reaching their decision to put the increase into effect on 31st January, 1968.
