§ 33. Mr. Will Owenasked the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs what progress has been made in the economy of the North-East during 1968; what are the prospects for 1969; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Frederick LeeProgress is being made, particularly in attracting new industry to the Region to offset the decline of employment in older industries. Approvals of new factory space so far this year are nearly 4 million square feet more than in the whole of 1967. There has also been encouraging progress in improving the infrastructure of the Region.
