§ 74. Mrs. Joyce Butlerasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take interim steps to restrict the use of cyclamates in food and soft drinks pending the detailed examination by the Food Additives and Contaminants Committee of the recent studies by Professor Legator and his report to the American Food and Drugs Administration of possible chromosome damage from these substances, a copy of which has been sent to him.
§ Mr. Hoy:These studies are reported to be highly preliminary and inconclusive. They will be examined by the Food Additives and Contaminants Committee as soon as details are available, but my right hon. Friend and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health and Social Security are satisfied that interim restrictions would not be justified.
