HC Deb 04 December 1968 vol 774 c460W
45. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland in view of the structural weakness revealed in a London multistorey flat, what steps are being taken to ensure continuing safety for occupants and potential tenants of similar housing developments in Scotland, particularly at Mansewood in Glasgow where the flats are being erected on a hill.

Mr. Ross

I have advised local authorities of the action they should take to appraise and, where necessary, strengthen multi-storey blocks.

70. Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many homes similar to those built at Ronan Point, London, have been built in Scotland; and what steps are being taken to make them safe.

Mr. Ross

None has been built in the actual system used at Ronan Point. It is estimated that about 12,000 houses in 150 blocks have been approved for building in large prefabricated load-bearing panel construction of one kind or another. Not all of these have been completed. For the rest I refer to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Glasgow, Govan (Mr. Rankin) today.
