asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects the General Teaching Council to complete the registration of teachers.

Mr. Millan

I understand that the Council has received applications from 39,510 teachers, that is to say from an overwhelming majority of those engaged in teaching and entitled to registration. The register, of course, remains open as registration is essentially a continuing process.
