HC Deb 10 April 1968 vol 762 c278W
Mr. Dempsey

asked the Minister of Health how many adults, school pupils and children under school age, respectively, died from poisoning in the last five years.

Mr. K. Robinson

The information is shown in the following table. Among children under 15 about three-quarters of the deaths from poisoning are due to poisoning by carbon monoxide or other gases or vapours.

Board been reduced since the date last year on which the regulations were changed in order to reduce the number of cases in which prior approval is required before treatment is commenced.

Mr. K. Robinson

The revised arrangements for prior approval came into effect in July, 1967, but the Dental Estimates Board was able to take some account of them as from the preceding March. During the 12 months beginning March, 1967, the Board reduced its staff by 97 (whole-time equivalents), representing 7.5 per cent. of total staff. This reduction was attributable to a reorganisation of the Board's filing system as well as to the relaxtion of the prior approval requirements.
