HC Deb 10 April 1968 vol 762 cc272-3W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what percentage of 18-year-olds have gone to university in Scotland and England, respectively, in each of the years 1956 to 1966.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

In the academic year 1966–67 the number of students from Scotland entering universities in Great Britain was 8.3 per cent. of the total population of 18-year-olds in Scotland. The corresponding figure for England and Wales was 5.3 per cent. These figures make allowance for the estimated proportion of overseas students in the total admission figures.

I regret that figures for earlier years are not available.
