HC Deb 05 April 1968 vol 762 c165W
Mr. Winnick

asked the Minister of Labour what correspondence he has received recently from the council of the London Borough of Croydon suggesting fiat his Department should have a representative on a joint committee to look into Croydon's industrial problems; what reply has been sent to the council; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Fernyhough

I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of the correspondence in question. As information about individual firms in Croydon is given to my local officers in confidence, I do not think it would be appropriate for my Department to be represented on the committee proposed by the council of the London Borough of Croydon which might well involve public discussion of the affairs of individual firms. My local officers will, of course, continue to do all they can to assist Croydon employers to find suitable workers.
