Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland, what was the total public expenditure on and in connection with the circular road in Grimsay, North Uist.

This scheme has been virtually completed at an estimated total cost of £234,033.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the estimated total expenditure on and in connection with the road at Paible, North Uist.

The estimated total cost is £82,974.

Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total of all public expenditure on and in connection with the Loshportain road scheme since 1948 and, separately, the expenditure on spur and township roads during this period; and if he will apportion the expenditure under heads.

The total expenditure incurred since 1948 by Inverness County Council, with grant-aid, on roads in the Lochportain area of North Uist is £198,580, divided as follows:—

Township road (serving Loch-portain-Cheesebay-Hoebeg) £47,050
Spur roads (within townships of Cheesebay and Hoebeg) £48,580
Link road (from Lochportain to A865) £102,950

Of the total expenditure £168,000 was spent on construction and £30,580 on maintenance.
