HC Deb 21 November 1967 vol 754 cc285-6W
36. Miss Quennell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer in how many cases he has exercised his power to relieve firms of their obligation to meet the Selective Employment Tax in view of their export trade.

Mr. Diamond

Neither the Finance Act nor the Selective Employment Payments Act gives such discretionary powers.

44 and 45. Mr. Bob Brown

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what estimate he has made of the percentage of labour costs in manufacturing industry which are being covered by the premium repayable on Selective Employment Tax;

(2) what estimate he has made of the percentage of labour costs in manufacturing industry which are being covered by the Selective Employment Tax premium and the regional employment premium in the development areas.

Mr. Diamond

On the latest available figures the additional element in the selective employment premium is roughly 1½ per cent. of labour costs in manufacturing. In development areas R.E.P. represents roughly a further 7½ per cent.
