HC Deb 21 November 1967 vol 754 cc293-4W
Sir C. Osborne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much of the loan of 4,000 million dollars from Canada and the United States of America secured in 1945 remains to be repaid; when is repayment due; and on what occasions has repayment been postponed.

Mr. Harold Lever

I assume that the Question refers to the line of credit of $3,750 million extended by the Government of the United States of America in 1945, of which $3,089 million remains to be repaid; and that of $1,250 million extended by the Government of Canada in 1946, of which $1,185 million was drawn and $976 million remains to be repaid.

Repayment of both loans is by annuity ending in the year 2000 but the payments of interest deferred in 1956 and of interest and principal deferred in 1957, 1964 and 1965 will be payable thereafter.
