HC Deb 20 November 1967 vol 754 cc233-4W
77. Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what representations were made by him to the Egyptian Government following the sinking of the Israeli destroyer "Eilat", in breach of the cease-fire agreement; and what reply was received.

Mr. George Brown

None. The "Eilat" incident quickly came before the Security Council, as did the heavy shelling in the Suez area on 24th October. In the Security Council debate Lord Caradon pointed out that these incidents underlined the need for the Council to pass urgently a fair and balanced Resolution that would ensure progress towards a peaceful settlement in the Middle East. On 25th October the Council unanimously passed a Resolution reaffirming the necessity of strict observance of the cease-fire Resolutions.
