HC Deb 15 November 1967 vol 754 cc114-5W
74. Mr. Gurden

asked the Minister of Transport whether she is aware that in connection with Birmingham airport there is already considerable road traffic congestion which is unlikely to be cured by present road plans in the area; and to what extent in that connection it will be possible to speed up the completion of an adequate ring road to the south of Birmingham linking with M5 and the provision of a satisfactory route from Birmingham to Wolverhampton.

Mr. Carmichael

Some relief to congestion around Birmingham airport should be afforded by the improvements to the A45 recently completed and in progress and by completion of the planned motorway links. The motorway links, which are being pushed forward as quickly as possible, will also relieve the existing routes between Birmingham and Wolverhampton, as well as themselves offering additional routes. Studies of possible improvements of communications south of Birmingham between M5 and the M6/M1 link are in hand but are not yet sufficiently advanced for the timing of schemes to be considered.
