asked the Minister of Transport if she will make a statement on the financing of the construction of the new pedestrian subway under the Bath road at Reading

Mr. Carmichael

My right hon. Friend is prepared to make a grant of 75 per cent. towards the cost of the subway.

If the council wish to put the work in hand urgently, the grant will be issued as quickly as possible.
