§ 53. Mr. Turtonasked the Minister of Transport how many accidents have taken place in the twelve months ended 11th August, 1967 on the three-mile stretch of the A19 between Knayton cross-roads and the end of the restricted area north of Thirsk; how many persons have lost their lives in these accidents, and how many have been injured; and 113W what steps she is taking to reduce the number of accidents on this section of the A19.
§ Mr. CarmichaelThere were 34 accidents, in which four people lost their lives and twenty were injured. I am very concerned about this and the possibility of additional safety measures in the meantime is now being examined as a matter of urgency.
An improvement between Knayton and the proposed Thirsk by-pass to dual carriageway standards has already been programmed and work should start next year.
