HC Deb 14 November 1967 vol 754 cc66-7W
55. Mr. Tudor Watkins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what plans he has for allowing Government contracts to be allocated to the development areas in Wales; and what special action is being taken immediately to steer contracts to areas with high rates of unemployment.

Mr. Harold Lever

On the first part of the Question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave on 7th November to my hon. Friend the Member for Cardigan (Mr. Elystan Morgan). The Government is however taking special action which will result in the expenditure of about £27 million on building and other work to be carried out soon in areas of high unemployment—of which Wales was about £E4½ million.—[Vol. 753, c.81.]
