HC Deb 14 November 1967 vol 754 c67W
57. Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the establishment of civil servants, both industrial and non-industrial, in the Greater London area in October, 1964; and what are the equivalent figures for the latest convenient date.

Mr. Harold Lever

Comprehensive figures of establishments or numbers of posts are not maintained. The numbers in post at the nearest dates are:—

Non-industrial staff, 1st July, 1964–132,000.

Industrial staff, 1st January. 1965–30,000.

Non-industrial staff, 1st July, 1967–147,500.

Industrial staff, 1st January, 1967–28,000.

The non-industrial figures refer to a 16 mile radius, the industrial figures to an 18 mile radius from the centre of London. Both exclude Post Office staff.
