§ 33. Mr. Dobsonasked the Minister of Technology what steps he proposes to take to improve efficiency in air-frame and air-engine factories engaged in Government contracts; whether he will examine the amount of sub-contracting and the methods used to choose the subcontracting firms; what measure of efficiency is expected from the sub-contractor; and if he will inquire why more work cannot be handled by the main contractors in their own workshops.
§ Mr. BennAs the House was informed on 9th May last a committee under the Chairmanship of Mr. St. John de H. Elstub is now engaged in a general study of the ways in which productivity and efficiency can be further improved in the industry; and the part played by sub-contractors and equipment suppliers will no doubt be considered in its report.
