§ Mr. Juddasked the Secretary of State for Defence whether the statement of policy by Mr. E. S. Gibbons at Portsmouth Dockyard on Monday, 30th October, was made with his authority; and what level of redundancy he expects in Her Majesty's dockyards as that policy takes shape.
§ Mr. FoleyThe reorganisation of Portsmouth Dockyard, including the inauguration of the Production Department on the 30th October, is most certainly proceeding with my full authority. This reorganisation is designed to increase efficiency. There is no intention, however, that the reorganisation in itself will lead to redundancy. Nor did Mr. Gibbons say this. I am sending the hon. Gentleman a copy of Mr. Gibbons' speech.
