HC Deb 04 May 1967 vol 746 c107W
Rear-Admiral Morgan Giles

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the average weekly throughput of United Kingdom-produced eggs between 1st January, 1967 and the latest convenient date; what proportion of the home market is represented; and what was the average weekly total of imported eggs over the same period.

Mr. Peart

The average weekly packing station throughput of first quality eggs in the period 1st January, 1967 to 1st April, 1967 was approximately 427,000 boxes of 360 eggs. Of this quantity, an average of approximately 380,000 boxes per week were sold by the Egg Marketing Board in shell and it is estimated that this represented 59.8 per cent. of sales of home produced shell eggs in the first quarter of the year. The average weekly total of imports for the period January to March, 1967, as shown in the Overseas Trade Accounts, was about 21,900 boxes.

Rear-Admiral Morgan Giles

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the total value in foreign currency of eggs imported into the United Kingdom between 1st January, 1967 and 15th April, 1967.

Mr. Peart
