HC Deb 21 March 1967 vol 743 cc232-3W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what is the present acreage of national parks in Wales and England, respectively; what will the acreage in Wales be after the proposed new Mid-Wales national park has been established; and whether this will be the total acreage in Wales to be administered by the Countryside Commission.

Mr. Willey

The present acreage of National Parks in Wales and Monmouthshire is 1,016,960 and in England is 2,348,160. Proposals for a new Mid-Wales National Park, which are under discussion might, if confirmed, increase the figure for Wales by about 320,000 acres.

None of these areas will be administered by the Countryside Commission; they will be administered by park planning authorities set up under Section 8 of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, 1949.
