HC Deb 09 March 1967 vol 742 c327W
54. Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement on the circumstances in which Nicholas Purcell was taken into police custody in the corridors of the Manchester City Magistrates' Court, on Thursday 2nd March, 1967, after the Manchester Stipendiary Magistrate had placed him on probation for two years.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Purcell was properly arrested as an absconder from borstal, but since he was placed on probation on 2nd March I decided to recommend the remission of the remainder of the borstal sentence. He has been released.
