HC Deb 09 March 1967 vol 742 cc326-7W
53. Mr. Rowland

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the present number of police man-hours spent each week on traffic duty outside the House of Commons when Parliament is sitting; if he will abolish this practice; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

In a week when the House rises each day at the normal hour, 327½ police man hours.

I have indicated before that I would be ready to be guided by the wishes of the House in suggesting to the Commissioner of Police that the traffic lights in Parliament Square should continue in operation while the House is sitting, but I am informed that the Services Committee of this House recently resolved against this.
