asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what sums have been allocated during 1967–68 for sport and the arts, respectively; and what steps he is taking to narrow the existing disparity.

Public spending in 1967–68 will be as follows: capital and current expenditure from central Government funds, £2 million on sport and £14.6 million on the arts; capital expenditure from local government funds (excluding expenditure on educational establishments), £23 million on sport and £0.5 million on the arts. Figures of local government current expenditure on these services are not available.
