HC Deb 02 March 1967 vol 742 c138W
Mr. Powell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, following the further interview arranged by him with the prisoner mentioned in paragraph 63 of the Mountbatten Report, he will now confirm that this prisoner in 1965 intimated to the security officer there mentioned that the Communist authorities were interested in George Blake, with a view to Blake's escape; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

At the recent interview, the prisoner concerned gave essentially the same information about his interrogation in East Germany as he gave to the Security Service on 2nd April, 1965. It affords no grounds for disagreeing with Lord Mountbatten's conclusion that there was no evidence that the prisoner warned the Security Authority that Communists intended to rescue Blake from Wormwood Scrubs.
