Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the President of the Board of Trade what reductions of import duties on the various classes of wool textiles exported from the United Kingdom to member countries of the Common Market are embodied in the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade agreement signed on 30th June.

The duty in the Common External Tariff on knitted wool fabrics will be reduced from 16 per cent. to 13 per cent. There will also be reductions of varying amounts on certain garments of wool. The first instalment of these tariff reductions is due to take place on the 1st July, 1968.

Because of the complicated structure of the United States tariff, a complete list would be lengthy. The wool textile items of which British exports to the United States in 1964 exceeded $10,000 on which reductions will be made are:

Reductions will also be made on certain garments of wool. The first instalment of these changes is due to be made on the 1st January, 1968.
