HC Deb 25 January 1967 vol 739 cc301-2W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Minister of Labour what was the percentage of the population over 15 years of age at work at the latest date for which figures are available in Wales, Scotland and England, respectively.

Mr. Fernyhough

At mid-1966, the estimated numbers of persons in civil employment expressed as percentages of the estimated home population were:—

Per cent.
Wales (including Monmouthshire) 53
Scotland 60
England 61½

Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Minister of Labour how many more men there were in employment in October, 1966, than in October, 1956, in Wales, Scotland and England, respectively.

Mr. Fernyhough

For 1956 the only information relating to the three countries is for June.

Provisional estimates for June, 1966, show that the numbers of male employees in employment in Wales and Scotland have fallen by approximately 10,000 and 45,000 respectively and in England have increased by approximately 780,000, since June, 1956.
