asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take action to ensure an increase in the application of lime to Welsh land.

As I said in my reply of 24th January to the hon. Member, I am satisfied that on average the application of lime on farms in Wales is adequate for reasonable maintenance needs. The importance of liming is well-known. I am sure that with the encouragement of an average subsidy of nearly 50 per cent. Welsh farmers will continue to maintain the lime content of their land.—[Vol. 739, c.247.]
