Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Minister of Health if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the net hourly earnings of a student nurse in her first, second and third year of training, respectively, assuming that she lives in; the comparable figures if she lives out; and the comparable statistics for a ward sister on the top salary scale.

The net hourly rates of training allowance for student nurses in general hospitals after deduction of income tax (assuming a single person with no allowance other than earned income relief and personal allowance), National Health Service superannuation contributions and national insurance contributions are as follows:

For the purpose of these calculations hours spent on lectures and classes are included in working hours.

Net hourly rates of salary calculated on a similar basis for a Ward Sister in a general hospital on the maximum of the salary scale are:
