HC Deb 14 February 1967 vol 741 c71W
Q26. Mr. John Lee

asked the Prime Minister if he will issue instructions to all Government servants employed abroad, including ambassadors and colonial governors, to refrain from making speeches about matters of political controversy whilst they are in office; and if he will ensure that severe disciplinary action is taken against any such officials who flout such instructions.

The Prime Minister

It is part of the duty of Ambassadors abroad to explain and further the policies of Her Majesty's Government. Instructions governing the conduct of members of the Diplomatic Service at home and abroad are contained in Diplomatic Service Regulations. I should be glad to make a copy available to my hon. Friend.

Similar instructions, contained in Colonial Regulations, govern the conduct of Colonial Governors.
