HC Deb 09 February 1967 vol 740 c368W
Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many Royal Naval officers and ratings will remain behind on the withdrawal of the Commander-in-Chief, South Atlantic; when he will leave Cape Town; and whether warships will continue to visit that port.

Mr. Foley

As I anounced in the House yesterday a Senior British Naval Officer (South Africa) will be appointed. He will have a very small staff of R.N. officers and ratings: the precise number is at present under consideration. The Commander-in-Chief South Atlantic and South America will haul down his flag on 11th April, 1967 and will leave Cape Town the following day. H.M. Ships will continue to visit South African ports as the occasion arises.
