§ 51. Mr. Hamlingasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will state the number of betting shops in business in the Metropolitan Police area for each of the last three years; what estimate he has made of their total turnover in each of these years; and if he will seek further powers to limit their increase in number.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsThere were 2,249 licensed betting offices in Greater London on 1st June, 1966, 2,210 on the same date in 1965, and about 2,000 in 1964. I have no means of assessing turnover. While I am watching the situation I have no proposals at present for legislation on this point.
