HC Deb 09 February 1967 vol 740 cc363-4W
68. Sir J. Vaughan-Morgan

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he is taking to control the imports of eggs from Denmark and the Irish Republic in view of the present adequate home production.

Mr. Peart

I do not consider that a case has been made out for any change in our policy on imports.

Mr. Currie

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will take immediate action to limit the import of eggs from overseas into the United Kingdom with a view to ensuring an economic return to home producers.

Mr. Peart

Provision is already made in the egg guarantee arrangements for compensation to be paid (subject to certain conditions) when imports in any month exceed an agreed level and the Egg Marketing Board's average selling price for that month falls below an agreed level. I do not consider that a case has been made out for any change in our policy on imports.
