asked the Minister of Health what is the average cost for a patient per day at a mental hospital outside London, a geriatric hospital outside London, and a general hospital outside London, respectively.

The information is not readily available in the form requested, but in 1966–67 the average daily costs per in-patient in non-teaching hospitals in England and Wales outside the Regions of the four Metropolitan Hospital Boards were as follows: Psychiatric (Mental Illness) Hospitals—£1 18s. 6d. a day. Geriatric Hospitals—£2 14s. 1d. a day. Acute Hospitals—£6 1s. 2d. a day.
