HC Deb 21 December 1967 vol 756 cc504-5W
53. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Minister of Labour how many men are likely to lose their employment as a result of the proposed closure of the Knockshinnoch colliery, South Ayrshire; and what other employment is likely to be available for them.

Mr. Fernyhough:

On present information between 90 and 100 men are likely to lose their employment. Some new jobs in other industries are expected to be available in the area in the course of next year and later, but I cannot at this stage say how many will be suitable for the redundant miners, a high proportion of whom are likely to be elderly or disabled.
