HC Deb 21 December 1967 vol 756 cc510-1W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what percentage of agricultural holdings in Wales qualifies for hill farm grants or subsidies: and how this percentage compares with the percentage in England.

Mr. John Mackie:

About 10,500 farms in Wales and about 8,500 in England are in receipt of the special grants or subsidies for hill farmers. These figures represent about 22 per cent. of agricultural holdings in Wales and about 3 per cent. of those in England, excluding in both cases the statistically insignificant holdings, i.e. those with virtually no crops or livestock on them.
