asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what steps he proposes to take to ensure that local planning authorities are informed of suitable methods of securing public participation in the formulation of development plans in their areas and of giving publicity to proposals to be included in those plans.

Mr. Greenwood:

In conjunction with my right hon. Friends, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, I propose to set up a committee under the Chairmanship of the Joint Parliamentary Secretary to my Department (Mr. Skeffington), with the following terms of reference: To consider, and to report to the Minister of Housing and Local Government, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, on the best methods, including publicity, of securing the participation of the public at the formative stage in the making of development plans for their area.
